AlertEnterprise Accelerates Growth with $19 Million Investment led by Venture Capital Firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers
Kleiner Perkins Invests in Proven Solution for Preventing Unauthorized Physical, Control System and Information System Access to the Nation's Critical Infrastructure Assets
FREMONT, Calif. Sept. 08, 2011 – AlertEnterprise, Inc. announced today that Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) has joined existing investors, Opus Capital and Startup Farms Investors, in leading a $19 Million investment in the Security Convergence software company. AlertEnterprise delivers true prevention of theft, fraud and acts of terrorism against critical infrastructure by analyzing and instantly responding to risks from blended threats across IT Systems, Physical Access Control Systems and Industrial Control Systems. KPCB Managing Partner Ray Lane will join the company's Board of Directors.
"The most insidious risks are simple acts that slip between physical and logical security systems," says Jasvir Gill, Founder and CEO of AlertEnterprise. "The physical security, industrial control systems and IT systems in companies today, operate in segregated organizational silos. However, real-world security incidents don't come neatly packaged as IT or non-IT incidents. The secret to true security lies in eliminating these silos, analyzing the risks in real-time, and seeing the big picture." Mr. Gill adds, "With this investment, Kleiner Perkins has validated our vision and endorsed a proven solution."
KPCB invested in Jasvir's previous startup Virsa Systems, a hugely successful application security and compliance software company that was acquired by SAP for $400 Million to become the core of the SAP GRC software product line. Ray Lane, the KPCB Managing Partner who led the round and is also the non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Hewlett Packard, states that "Infrastructure Security has lagged behind the requirements of both the market and the Nation. With its disruptive innovation, AlertEnterprise has captured the imagination of CIOs and CISOs alike by practically demonstrating that power outages and incidents related to pipelines, oil rigs and refineries can be prevented with powerful and predictive risk analytics."
Some of the largest asset owners and operators in the utilities industry, in particular, are challenged with complex compliance requirements directed at securing the grid and operating assets. Michael Assante, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) for the North American Electricity Reliability Council (NERC), the body empowered to enforce reliability standards, states that, "Compliance alone cannot make Utilities secure. The heightened threats against power generation and grid operators need continuous active policy enforcement. The AlertEnterprise solution cuts across organizational silos and precisely delivers the necessary level of enforcement." Michael Assante is the President of the National Board of Information Security Examiners (NBISE).
Responding to challenges facing the Utilities industry, NIPSCO Director, NERC Compliance and Operations Technology, Tim Conway states, "Cyber security and insider threats are some of the most pressing concerns for utilities today. Utilities are subject to regulations that must take into account both logical and physical security. Having a single solution that can address security, access management and compliance across all these organizational silos has become an industry necessity. AlertEnterprise will enable us to secure our critical operating assets and meet our regulatory obligations."
In addition to Critical infrastructure Protection, AlertEnterprise has successfully created solutions for Airport Security, Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Nuclear Power Plant Cyber Security, Federal Cross-Agency Identity and Access Management, and Multi-Regulatory Compliance Automation.

AlertEnterprise Readies Federal Agencies for Successful Deployment of OMB 11-11 Requirements
AlertEnterprise Showcases Comprehensive OMB 11-11 Software Solution for Federal Enterprise Access Management with Integrated PIV-PACS Capabilities Based on HSPD-12, FICAM, and FIPS 201, at GovSec 2011, Booth #1910
Washington, D.C., March 28, 2011 – BUSINESSWIRE – The clock is ticking for federal agencies to comply with the OMB 11-11 memo requirements asking agencies to aggressively ramp up their efforts to follow specific technical standards and business processes for the issuance and routine use of Federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) smartcard credentials, including a standardized background investigation to verify employees' and contractors' identities. AlertEnterprise has developed a leading, all-encompassing OMB 11-11 Solution which addresses these requirements while providing a next generation access management system.
The AlertEnterprise Solution sets the new bar for converged identity and enterprise access management by provisioning to both physical access and logical systems. The Solution does this through seamless integration with enterprise applications, HR systems, authentication servers, identity databases, and verification systems to conduct background checks and risk analysis on an on-going basis as well as during the on-boarding and off-boarding process. These systems provide a centralized identity access management system to provide for full compliance with directives like HSPD-12, which calls for a Common Identification Standard for Federal Employees and Contractors. Concurrently, AlertEnterprise enhances insider threat management by integrating across multiple card access systems, video surveillance systems and sensor networks to deliver the ability to monitor employee and contractor access.
AlertEnterprise software provides a unifying layer across existing PACS (Physical Access Control Systems) from multiple vendors, video surveillance and building management systems to integrate Federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials with PACS systems. In addition to provisioning physical access to facilities and critical assets, AlertEnterprise delivers the ability to provision logical access to enterprise systems, applications and critical information based on real-time risk analysis.
"We recognize the value of PIV credentials as a common means of authentication," says Jasvir Gill, CEO of AlertEnterprise. "AlertEnterprise aims to provide a solution not only to successfully manage PIV credentialing, but we take it a step further to eliminate silos across disparate systems, which in turn provides a higher degree of security while significantly reducing costs through the elimination of duplicate functions."
Another significant benefit of the AlertEnterprise OMB 11-11 Solution is that it incorporates built-in FISMA compliance standards (i.e. NIST SP800-53A) that can be used to validate compliance with applicable regulations by automating the Certification and Accreditation (C&A) process.

AlertEnterprise Launches Next Generation Multi-Regulatory Compliance Automation Software at RSA Conference 2011
Industry's First Solution to Include Security Convergence Technology in Compliance Software
SAN FRANCISCO—February 15, 2011—AlertEnterprise, Inc., an industry leader in IT Security, Physical Security and Critical Infrastructure Security Software, has introduced its Security Convergence Solution for Multi-Regulatory Compliance Automation. Organizations can now bridge the gap, not only across enterprise applications like ERP, IAM and GRC systems, but also across Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) and Industrial Automation Systems. AlertEnterprise is the industry’s first solution to address regulations with growing requirements to monitor physical access to secured facilities, critical assets and processes. Regulations like NERC CIP, CFATS, FDA-related compliance, as well as NRC mandates, all require monitoring of physical access. Additionally regulations dealing with protection of personal information such as HIPAA, PCI and GLBA are adding provisions to monitor insider access to critical information.
Compliance-related manual processes are often handled in silos and have proven to be costly, time-consuming and error-prone. AlertEnterprise eliminates the silos that exist between the domains of IT, Physical Security and Plant Operations (where applicable), and reaches across them to deliver the most comprehensive risk analysis. These unique capabilities enabled by AlertEnterprise deliver Active Policy Enforcement, which combined with compliance can now ensure true prevention of theft, fraud and acts of terrorism.
AlertEnterprise Founder and CEO, Jasvir Gill describes a scenario, “Take for instance a terminated Utility employee whose email access and corporate network access has been disabled. With AlertEnterprise you can determine which terminated employee has physical access to remote substations and the ability to change control system settings. The moment the person swipes their badge to gain access; the software does real-time risk analysis against the employee records in the HR systems and can deny entry and notify the control room.”
Mr. Gill goes on to add, “Our customers are excited about the security convergence capabilities built into the compliance solution. Mandates require them to remove physical access within 24 hours of termination. When you are dealing with tens of thousands of employees over large geographical regions, this is impossible without automation that extends beyond IT”.
AlertEnterprise delivers a complete solution for multi-regulatory compliance automation and risk management. The built- in Common Controls and Risk Repository (CCRR) allows controls from multiple authoritative sources, regulations and standards to be mapped against each other and harmonized so as to reduce the overlap in controls testing and reduce the time to compliance by as much as 70%. Key risk libraries, industry-specific and process-specific controls can be mapped to assets, people or processes and included in the controls testing. AlertEnterprise provides a robust rules-engine that allows custom controls to be created and automated as well to fit in with existing business processes. Exceptions and failed controls can trigger notification, multi-level workflow and approval processes.
AlertEnterprise software works with existing enterprise applications like SAP, Oracle etc., as well as with Physical Access Controls Systems (PACS) from major vendors like GE, Lenel, Tyco, Johnson Controls (JCI), Cisco and Honeywell. AlertEnterprise has the distinctive ability to monitor alerts and events from control system vendors like ABB, Siemens, Honeywell, Emerson, SEL, and GE, which gives AlertEnterprise a unique advantage of providing the most comprehensive view of risk to an organization; this capability can be used to leverage full compliance with NERC CIP, CFATS, FERC Standards of Conduct, NIST SP800-53, HIPAA, SOX, FDA and FISMA requirements, amongst many others.

SAN DIEGO—January 31, 2011—AlertEnterprise, Inc., an industry leader in IT Security, Physical Security and Critical Infrastructure Security Software, will be launching its NERC CIP Compliance Automation Solution for Utilities at DistribuTECH 2011, February 1st – 3rd in San Diego, CA.
AlertEnterprise is pleased to announce the next generation compliance automation solution for NERC CIP, right on the heels of a joint NERC CIP Webinar conducted by Energy Central and AlertEnterprise on Tuesday, January 25th, 2011. During the Webinar, NERC’s former Chief Security officer Michael Assante, and Jasvir Gill, Founder and CEO of AlertEnterprise, shared the NERC CIP recipe for success through insight into a compliance automation solution that provides for a more secure and a smarter grid. Mr. Assante, currently the President and CEO of the National Board of Information Security Examiners, mentioned that he realizes the security value in a crucial component of NERC CIP compliance: active policy enforcement. AlertEnterprise has embraced active policy enforcement to create the next generation compliance automation solution for NERC CIP.
The NERC CIP Compliance Automation Solution delivers total compliance management for NERC CIP-001 to CIP-009, mapping of Critical Assets and Cyber Critical Assets to IT Security Controls and Physical Access Controls, powerful risk modeling to display compliance violations, control system risks, IT security gaps, and physical access risks. “AlertEnterprise provides an automated solution to the toughest NERC CIP compliance issues that include: Employee/Contractor Background Certification and Validation, Continuous Monitoring for Remote Control Rooms and Substations, and Identification and Categorization of Critical and Cyber Critical Assets,” says Jasvir Gill. “For instance, we pro-actively enforce stringent requirements to remove physical access of employees following termination.
AlertEnterprise continues to extend the boundaries of compliance management by offering Utilities purpose-built solutions, including an NEI 08-09 Cyber Security and Compliance Solution and Smart Grid Security Solution. AlertEnterprise compliance automation solutions are in operation at many leading Utilities, including Florida Power & Light/NextEra, Allegheny Energy, OG&E, Toronto Hydro, Consumers Energy and NIPSCO. AlertEnterprise Introduces Cyber Security and Compliance Automation Software Solution Designed for the Nuclear Industry
AlertEnterprise to Debut Industry's First Integrated NEI 08-09 Cyber Security and Compliance Solution at NEI Cyber Security Implementation Workshop
BALTIMORE, MD – January 24, 2011 – AlertEnterprise, Inc., the industry leader in Security, Risk, and Compliance management software, today introduced a premier Cyber Security and Compliance Automation Solution for the Nuclear Industry. The Solution is the Industry’s first integrated NEI 08-09 Cyber Security and Compliance Solution designed to analyze risks across IT, Physical Access and Process Control Systems.
The AlertEnterprise Solution will enable nuclear power plants to automate required assessments, reduce complexity, and eliminate silos to maintain a repeatable and sustainable compliance process. “The flexibility of AlertEnterprise multi-regulatory compliance solutions means that changes to regulations like 10 CFR 73.54, standards, and best practice frameworks can easily be incorporated into the compliance software without the need for re-deployment, including when a new standard like NEI 10-09 is instituted,” says AlertEnterprise Founder and CEO, Jasvir Gill. “Our solution will provide the nuclear industry with the face-lift it deserves.”
The Nuclear Industry is facing a huge pain around assessment, particularly as it pertains to the Critical Digit Asset assessment for NEI 08-09. NEI, the Nuclear Energy Institute and expert industry body comprised of plant owners and operators, has published a detailed set of guidelines for the Nuclear Industry to abide by when filing cyber security plans as required by the NRC. Billed as NEI 08-09, these include requirements for security assessments of critical systems and assets related to safety, security and emergency preparedness. AlertEnterprise has created a comprehensive solution to resolve this pain by delivering identification, classification and assessment of CDA’s and the application of appropriate controls in a sustainable and efficient business process. AlertEnterprise helps eliminate time-consuming and extensive manual processes, producing quick results in both assessment and documentation.
AlertEnterprise compliance automation, cyber security and smart grid solutions are in operation at many leading Utilities, including Florida Power & Light/NextEra, Allegheny Energy, OG&E, Toronto Hydro, and NIPSCO. AlertEnterprise software works with existing enterprise applications like SAP, Oracle etc., as well as with Physical Access Controls Systems (PACS) from major vendors like GE, Lenel, Tyco, Johnson Controls (JCI), Cisco and Honeywell. AlertEnterprise has the additional unique ability to monitor alerts and events from control systems from vendors like ABB, Siemens, Honeywell, Emerson, SEL, and GE, which gives AlertEnterprise a unique advantage to fully support compliance with NERC CIP, CFATS, FERC Standards of Conduct, NIST SP800-53, FISMA requirements and many others.

SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT Subsidiary SITA NEWS, Reduces Costs for Security, Compliance and Audit with Integrated Approach Across All Enterprise Applications Using AlertEnterprise Software
Rob Kraanen, Application Security Manager, SITA NEWS Presents Solution at GRC 2010 Europe Conference
GRC 2010 Europe Conference
BARCELONA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Increasing efficiency across multiple enterprise applications is a multi-phased and challenging task since the various facets of security reside in silos. From IT security to critical infrastructure security, SITA NEWS has been faced with mounting compliance costs, when having to address compliance separately for different enterprise applications. SITA NEWS was able to employ an integrated approach to simplify its risk remediation process to ensure compliance and reduce audit costs.
“By taking a fresh look at IT Security challenges, we realized we could eliminate laborious, painful and time-consuming risk remediation and role re-design through new technology,” says Rob Kraanen, Application Security Manager for SITA NEWS. “SITA NEWS improved management of its user roles, while simultaneously reducing cost and complexity in managing risk across multiple applications.”
Rob Kraanen’s session at the conference highlights new tools and technology for the modeling of users, roles, risks and controls. He demonstrated SITA’s methods for better managing risk across multiple sources — including IAM systems, ERP, HR and other enterprise applications — to provide more thorough information and better alignment with business.
By streamlining the company’s strategy, business users can be engaged in critical processes like access design, access certification, and risk remediation to help bridge the gap between business and IT. Risk and compliance efforts are generally dealt with in silos, producing complex and hard-to-understand reports. Business managers must rely on IT security professionals to decipher these reports and indicate the extent of risk to the business. This process presents a huge challenge for efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of IT Security. “By incorporating new technology with a business layer component, we received intuitive decision criteria that business users can easily understand,” says Rob.

AlertEnterprise Extends Identity and Access Management Beyond IT, to Include Physical Access and Critical Assets
AlertEnterprise CEO Jasvir Gill to Preview Solution November 9th, 2010 at the Emerging Technology Pavilion, Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2010 in Cannes, France
Gartner Symposium/ITxpo
CANNES, France--( BUSINESS WIRE)--AlertEnterprise, Inc., an industry leader in IT Security, Physical Security and Critical Infrastructure Security Management, will be previewing its Enterprise Access Management Solution at the Gartner ITxpo, November 11th-13th in Cannes. Recognized by Gartner as an impactful and innovative company in Identity and Access Management (IAM), AlertEnterprise is highlighted in Gartner's April 2010 research report, "Cool Vendors in Identity and Access Management, 2010."
The Enterprise Access Management Solution combines Identity Intelligence and analytics to manage the complete identity lifecycle with visual identification of roles and risks, self-service ability, and role assignment. AlertEnterprise delivers complete risk analysis prior to provisioning access to IT applications, critical assets, Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) and facilities.
Most industry security experts concur that IT security, physical access security, and critical infrastructure security, all reside in silos. This presents a huge challenge for timely detection of adverse events, malicious behavior and fraudulent activity. Jasvir Gill, founder and CEO of AlertEnterprise, takes this challenge to heart. His previous security and compliance software company, Virsa Systems, was one of the most successful acquisitions by SAP to date and has become the SAP GRC Access Controls offering. "The most insidious risks are simple tasks that slip between physical and logical security systems," says Jasvir. "While they may not individually trigger an alert in any one system, in combination, they reveal a risk that may defy detection unless physical and logical security systems communicate with one another."
AlertEnterprise continues to push the boundaries between Identity and Access Management (IAM) and its own roots in Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC). "Extending the concepts of GRC and IAM beyond IT and into the physical access domain, has allowed us to address real-world security problems including insider threat and incident management," says Jasvir. "While we continue to solve business application security problems for our enterprise customers, customers also want us to secure their most critical assets against sabotage, espionage and acts of terrorism."

AlertEnterprise CEO, Jasvir Gill Presents Nationwide Webinar on Insider Threat as part of the ISACA e-Symposium
Sometimes the biggest threat is from the inside. More incidents related to fraud, theft and sabotage actually are perpetrated by insiders. Keeping business operations running smoothly requires that employees and contractors be given privileges and adequate access. Many organizations are just living with the inherent risks thinking that there is no solution to balance the two conflicting needs.
Jasvir Gill presented a unique risk management capability that aggregates blended threats from IT Systems, Physical Access Control Systems and Critical Control Systems and uncovers previously undetectable risks. By analyzing and correlating information like access behavior patterns, knowledge of the types of assets accessed and time of day information, risks can be determined and access denied for those who would pose an intentional or unintentional threat. As an example, a warehouse supervisor denied promotion and flagged as disgruntled would cause an alert to be generated if he used his electronic badge to access a chemical storage facility after hours and logged into the inventory control software as well, thereby eliminating a potential theft of material that would be almost impossible to detect.
AlertEnterprise correlates risks across multiple systems via a risk engine that can assimilate users, roles, access rights, transactions and permissions across a multitude of enterprise applications that can include major ERP systems, Identity and Access Management Systems (IAM), Governance, Risk and Compliance Systems and HR Systems.

AlertEnterprise presented on Smart Grid Security: Insider Threat - Access to Assets; encrypting meter data, deploying firewalls and creating security perimeters is not enough. As new technology gets added to the grid, a more insidious risk needs to be addressed – insider threat. Security professionals have long advocated the monitoring of trusted resources within the company – people with access to control rooms, field supervisors with access to head-ends for meter networks, technicians with full access to generating assets and contractors with access to SCADA devices in remote distribution substations. Who is watching what they’re doing? The damage from a disgruntled employee or an insider with malicious intent can far exceed the network intruder

Many security experts have been Security professionals have long advocated the monitoring of the trusted resources within the company – people with access to control rooms, field supervisors with access to head-ends for meter networks, technicians with full access to generating assets and contractors with access to remote distribution substations and SCADA devices. Who is watching what they’re doing? The damage from a disgruntled employee or an insider with malicious intent can far exceed the network intruder. The paper was presented by Pan Kamal, Director of Marketing at AlertEnterprise.
AlertEnterprise software correlates information from IT Systems, Physical Access Control Systems and Industrial Controls to track insider’s access to systems, assets and processes. Conducting risk analysis and background checks prior to provisioning access allows insider threats to be mitigated. Additionally privileged user access can be continuously monitored.

AlertEnterprise, Allegheny Energy and Toronto Hydro present at SANS Process Control and SCADA Security Summit, Orlando
Shelley Cottrill, Sr. Controls and Compliance Consultant presented a session on Simplifying Security, Risk and Compliance with Next Generation Visualization Solutions for Utilities. Innovative visualization techniques are being used to identify risks, protect assets, insure compliance with regulations and deliver real security while reducing losses through timely detection and interdiction of incidents. Active policy enforcement enables companies to monitor insider threats to business assets, enterprise applications and critical infrastructure. Allegheny Energy is implementing a vision for unified compliance that also includes NERC CIP and FERC compliance. The next generation security application delivers the convergence of IT Applications, Physical Access Control Systems and Industrial Control / SCADA Systems. Until now organizations have addressed threats from each of these areas in silos. Business-friendly visualization techniques can uncover hidden risks and deliver powerful remediation capabilities.
Toronto Hydro IT Security Manager Kshamit Dixit spoke on Plugging the Biggest Hole in Smart Grid Security: Insider Threat - Access to Assets; Encrypting meter data, deploying firewalls and creating security perimeters is not enough. As new technology gets added to the grid, a more insidious risk needs to be addressed – insider threat. Security professionals have long advocated the monitoring of the trusted resources within the company – people with access to control rooms, field supervisors with access to head-ends for meter networks, technicians with full access to generating assets and contractors with access to SCADA devices in remote distribution substations. Who is watching what they’re doing? The damage from a disgruntled employee or an insider with malicious intent can far exceed the network intruder.
Toronto Hydro is addressing this problem for the smart grid with an innovative new breed of applications designed to prevent insider threat, detect disgruntled employees and prevent sabotage and theft.

AlertEnterprise to Exhibit at the SAP GRC 2009 Europe Conference, Prague, Czechoslovakia
Following the theme of simplifying SAP security, AlertEnterprise showcased its visualization solutions at SAP GRC Europe Conference. While compliance regulations and audit requirements are making business managers more accountable, their ability to respond is hindered by the fact that GRC and IDM systems are complex and very technical. Risk and compliance aspects are generally dealt with in silos and reports from these applications are hard to understand. Business managers must rely on interpretation by IT security professionals as to the extent of risk to the business.
Organizations need to track who has access to critical systems, applications and data. Equally important is deciding how much access to provide and assessing the risk prior to provisioning user access. Evolving trends to include physical access controls add further complexity that today’s applications are not setup to handle.
Visualization software from AlertEnterprise applied as a common business layer can work with existing GRC and IDM systems to enable existing users, roles, transactions, authorization codes, directory information and entitlements to be rendered visually, delivering intuitive decision criteria that business users can readily understand.

AlertEnterprise Highlights Critical Infrastructure, Control System and Smart Grid Security at ISA Expo, Houston
Protecting critical infrastructure starts at the process control level. Applications and systems controlling large industrial and infrastructure processes are complex and can be dispersed over large geographies. Most of these processes run non-stop and are fine-tuned to deliver performance and reliability. Modifying or replacing any of these systems (e.g. .processes controlling chemical plants, oil and gas production, pipeline transport of oil and gas, production and distribution of electricity etc.), usually only occurs after a 10-15 year use cycle. Many of these systems were not designed with security in mind. However modifying these processes to introduce security after the fact is not viable. Most of these involve large scale critical assets that need to monitor for both physical access as well as cyber intrusion. Today this occurs in silos and for the most as unrelated processes in different departments within the organization.
Over the last decade infrastructure companies in an effort to optimize operational efficiency and to merge operational plant information into enterprise operations have integrated plant systems (typically managed by Plant IT Departments) with the corporate networks (managed by corporate IT departments). This transition has introduced a new set of vulnerabilities to plant networks that used to operate island of automation.
AlertEnterprise is the only software that can uncover security threats across the IT systems, physical access controls and industrial controls without adversely impacting the performance or reliability of the industrial process. We do this by interfacing with process related middleware like OSIsoft to access real-time parameters. We can also include data from specialized log management systems that can deliver information directly from field devices like PLCs, RTUs, and process applications called Distributed Control Systems (DCS). Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems are at the heart of collecting all this data and managing the operation of a very broad range of instruments, sensors, switches, valves, gauges, servo control motors, pumps, alarms, relays and communications gear. AlertEnterprise software can uncover blended threats across all these areas to detect and prevent unintentional or malicious incidents before they happen.

AlertEnterprise Sponsors ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) San Francisco Chapter Fall Conference
AlertEnterprise has sponsored the ISACA San Francisco Chapter Fall Conference. AlertEnterprise showcased its AlertInsight Risk Visualization Solution. Business managers first and foremost need to remain focused on delivering operational results. They don’t want to worry about the underlying technical details -- such as security and controls governing access to data, assets, and physical locations.
In a worst-case scenario, the business side finds that IT authorization processes take too long. Reports of potential security violations are often technically complex and riddled with jargon, transaction codes, and confusing remediation alternatives. Unable to interpret this technical complexity, business managers must rely on IT to translate and explain, which can add hours, days, even weeks to the approval process. The larger the company, the greater the IT Security queue will be for this approval-explanation- remediation cycle. The result: complaints that IT is constraining their ability to conduct business.
It is increasingly common to see marathon GRC project meetings between business and IT. IT needs to explain the technical details of the root cause of a risk (like authorization object, field, and values) for the business side to take any action. The process becomes even more complicated when the proposed remediation (such as a role change) could impact other users by accidentally removing their access and keeping them from doing their jobs. This back-and-forth exercise can go on interminably as each risk is examined and remediated.
In addition, risk analysis and remediation is not a one-time event. The environment is constantly changing. User access, user roles, and system configurations are changing as business conditions change, which adds another level of complexity. To further complicate matters, auditors are now insisting on reviewing the periodic user access reviews and access re-affirmations required in regulations. This requirement puts additional pressure on an already over-burdened IT department.
AlertEnterprise demonstrated how strategic alignment between Business and IT can go a long way in reducing costs for audit and assessment of risks that are faced by organizations in conducting their daily business. Employing the new visualization techniques discussed here can increase efficiency, insure compliance with regulations while eliminating lengthy discussions to remediate risks.
