Job Description:

A Database administrator is responsible for managing company databases that store their business data. Since information storage is critical to  company, we are seeking a database administrator who is highly trained in computer systems and must have key skills like DBMS/RDBMS/ODBMS, Performance tuning and SQL optimization. Skills like Oracle, SQL Server and Cloud DB’s will be a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in database design implement the schema / database design to meet the business needs.
  • Validates designed applications utilizing database management software and/or general programming software to enhance performance. Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users;
  • Updating and amending existing databases
  • Setting up and testing new database and data handling systems
  • Monitoring database efficiency
  • Sustaining the security and integrity of data
  • Creating complex query definitions that allow data to be extracted
  • Training colleagues in how to input and extract data
  • Good Understanding of various Database architectures, Transaction Management and Locking features are mandatory.
  • Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline. Generating ER Diagrams which can help deriving the physical database design.
  • Maintaining data standards, writing database documentation, including best practices, procedures and definitions is mandatory.
  • Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans; ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
  • communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Computer Science is preferred. 4-5 years of database experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 2 or more years of experience in database design or maintenance
  • Experience working with software installation/upgrading procedures
  • Experience working with file and system maintenance procedures
  • Experience working with database creation techniques and database management systems (DBMS/RDBMS/ODBMS)
  • Experience working with performance modeling and benchmarking skills with relational databases
  • Experience working with Database technology like Partitioning, Replication, Backup and recovery techniques.

  • Good knowledge of Archival and Purging, Partitioning Concepts. Types of Partitioning.
  • Good programming skills for database management and general software
  • Good communication skills for providing documentation to support personnel, customers, and managers
  • Good leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to anticipate problems and take decisive action
  • Understanding of structured query language (SQL)
  • Knowledge of ‘relational database management systems’ (RDBMS), ‘object oriented database management systems’ (OODBMS) and XML database management systems
  • Experience with their database software/web applications
  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle and/or My SQL
  • Experience with In-Memory databases (SAP-HANA/Oracle Times Ten) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ORM tools like Hibernate is a big plus.
  • Experience with Cloud technology is preferable
